Continental Thermal Blanketing Explains the Compositional Dichotomy of the Diffuse Basaltic Province Across Central‐Eastern Asia

Abstract A diffuse magmatic province covering central‐eastern Asia continent displays a compositional transition at 120–100 Ma and probably reflects melting initiation in isotopically enriched lithospheric mantle, followed by of the asthenosphere. However, cause for across such vast landmass remains poorly constrained. Here, analyses newly found Chaoge basalts (∼95 Ma, central Asia) compiled data from basaltic are combined to reveal factors controlling basalt dichotomy. The considered originate hot pyroxenite‐bearing asthenosphere with potential temperatures ∼1,450°C, overlapping source thermochemical conditions most post‐transition rocks. is suggested be hotter have controlled studied province.
